On the Fly ARC Applications - Open Until November 4
S.J. Crawford actively avoids the use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) across the entirety of his published works. As part of his support for the broader creative industry, he has chosen to work exclusively with artists who do not use AI; relevant details are provided below for reader reference.

The standard art/graphics review as detailed below was performed. None of the sketch, line art, or final artwork stages bore common signs of having been AI-generated or assisted.
Unambiguous and direct AI-avoidance instructions were provided to the design agency at the commissioning stage in their working language, and written agreement to these terms was received.
Chuangtao Wenhua was established in 2021, prior to the widespread availability of consumer/corporate generative AI programs.
S.J. Crawford's public works are published by Evernorth Books, whose corporate policies restrict the use of generative AI by client authors and hired external services (editorial and artistic).
The author and publisher wish to balance genuine public interest in artist verification with the ability to do business with creative talent across the world (including areas where global social media is uncommon or unavailable).
As such, in addition to the details provided above, all art and artists are screened as follows:
Artist portfolios are reviewed extensively for stylistic consistency over time (and the existence of pre-2023 work, if available)
Each stage of art, including sketch, line art, and color application, is screened for potential AI use:
Determining the existence of certain detailed elements that are known to be frequently mishandled by generative AI programs. Such details are not disclosed publicly so as to prevent unscrupulous actors from learning how to evade manual AI-detection protocols.
Art stages are compared to each other through overlays. Any subsequent stage (line art/final illustration) that is extremely similar in positioning and detail to an initial sketch is investigated.
Screening for implausible progress and illogical workflows, such as skipping sketch stages, separating various illustration elements across layers in unusual ways, re-working an entire illustration when only minor modifications to certain parts have been requested etc.
The author and publisher will withdraw any visuals that are demonstrated to have been AI-generated in whole or in part. As such, if the original nature of any artwork, promotional materials, or graphics are in doubt, please contact the publisher at admin@evernorthbooks.ca with your concerns and evidence, and an internal review will be conducted accordingly.
